I have a chequebook in my hallway, its never been used in 4 years.
I`ve received two cheques in the last 5 years, one was a refund and the other from someone I knew who lives nearby.
In business its bank transfer, Paypal or spondoolies.

I use different methods of payment depending on where I'm shopping, Cards have their place as does cash.
Some dealers now have pin and chip machines and that's really useful, some will still take cheques even ones that don't know me, Maybe I just look honest.

According to your description (not really a provenance), it appears that you've rounded the weights, and am assuming ounces avoirdupois rather than troy, it looks like a total of 360 ounces (your weights are unlikely to exact), which at current silver prices, full scrap value today for .900 coin would be right around $5000., for .925 around $5140. - so the dealer is offering you basically twice the intrinsic value. Your set is desirable, repousse-work in a Chinoiserie motif, and likely sterling, though it makes little difference in its value, please see this link: https://www.smpub.com/ubb/Forum13/HTML/000690.html Was going to suggest that you submit this set to some reliable auction houses, but see that you've already listed it on eBay...

I think the Zelle procedure is something akin to your direct money transfer. I use it every month to assist my son in sending his child support payments. He gives me the money & I transfer the money to my ex DIL. He banks at a small local bank which he really likes & doesn't want to open an account at another bank for this purpose only. When I do it she has the money in her account the same day.

Well this is all very interesting.
Glad I came here and read it.
If it were me, cash only to be handed over at the bank of the seller by the buyer before goods are received so you know all is okey dokey.

I still pay with checks for certain things these days, not many but some.
