I picked this up at an antique show and sold it last year for $9k. I am very ignorant of militaria, but I knew enough to buy this piece! It is a Chinese Imperial Order of the Double Dragon, issued to high-ranking government officials such as Admirals of the fleet, Field Marshalls, Ambassadors, and Ministers of the State. This early First Type was issued during the Qing Dynasty from 1862 to 1881. The central stone is usually red, blue, or white, (indicating class) but this unusual example features a dark green jade button! There were NO indications (under almost-microscopic examination!) that the stone was replaced, and I sold it with the atypical stone still being a mystery to me.
I appreciate everyone's help on my "Military? wing pin" post!

What is the material, gilt silver, gold? What does the back look like? Any markings? I only ask out of extreme curiosity and the hope that if I find such a thing I will know what I'm looking at. I appreciate you sharing this!:)

SIS, I'm not the OP, but the item appears to be enamel and gilt-silver to my eye. The inscriptions are in standard Chinese script and Manchu.

Very nice piece, great score! Congrats to the OP.
