I had an advantage - grew up playing with the family jewels. In this case it wasn't a euphamism; it was all the stuff Grandma ended up with somehow that passed down the family. And Mom's 60s stuff that she never wore. Grandma was one of 11, so I have to wonder how she got all of the family engagement rings.(LOL)

That sounds fun! I never had that much family living close by. My dad's family was in Scotland and my mom's was in Canada/Northern Michigan. We were in Delaware/East Coast. My mom wasn't into jewelry but I always liked it. One gm died when I was five and at some point I claimed ownership of several pcs of her jewelry that I still love very much. I'll share pics soon. I used to wear the stuff all the time when younger. All that to say I wish I had had a mentor to teach me this stuff at a much younger age! Heck...I'd take a mentor now, if anyone wants the job :p
