I've a T shirt bought on my first trip to the US in the late 70s.

A Woman's Place is in the House.

    And in the Senate.

...but they forgot the Supreme Court. AND the White House.

There was a Special Election here a few weeks ago, and there were some guys at the polls (past the legally required limit) telling me to vote for the "right candidate". I told them the right candidate wasn't there; SHE wasn't on the ballot. :)

Names and their history, a topic I find quite interesting. Evelyn is another name that was once commonly used for boys, but now is generally used only for girls.

One of my great grandmothers was named Bertha, although when I was in her presence (she died when I was in HS,) my grandmother called her Mother and my mother called her Muddy (so that's what I thought her name was.) Fast forward several decades and I discovered from postcards and other notes that her friends and other relatives called her Bert.

    Famous men named Evelyn include:
Sir Evelyn Robert de Rothschild, and author Evelyn Waugh.
Waugh was honored in 2016 by Time magazine - on their list of 100 best women authors. Oops.

I haven't heard of a living male Evelyn in some time, or a Carol either, although younger females still get the names once in a while. I have a hunch there are some of both in the Caribbean; names we think of as Victorian were still in use in Jamaica, Trinidad, Puerto Rico etc well into the 60s. Possibly still are.

    Hi,
Back when I was working in 2000. I was waiting for a patient named Evelyn Morris.
My sect kept looking in the waiting room and only saw a male with really dark skin. She finally asked him his name and he said Evelyn Morris. She almost fainted away.
My sect was a 6ft 4" black woman. She could not believe this guy's name. She was expecting a nice Jewish woman.

We have a client whose last name is Hazel. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a last name.

The first time we went to France in 1982, I was supposed to stay with a host family. They thought I was a boy because the name Beverly can be male over there.
