People here in the Midwest mostly don't know or care much about Fulper. It helps that the mark was obscured by glaze and that, overall, it is a pretty uninteresting example. Really, about as blah as they come.

Thanks Joe - I have indeed id'd the artist...its a very early piece but still of some collectable value...its on its way to an auctioneer as we speak.

 

Just a fun pick from the thrift last night for $2.99+. Patented in 1933 by H.M. Piker.
The locking lid with original key has both coin slots and currency holes that can be labled and which correspond with the six tin cups inside and one longer slot in the middle that corresponds with a small tray inside. The previous owner has them labeled, gas, insurance, telephone and so on. About 12" x 8".

After the storm beach picks, the large 1/2” thick dark green pieces at the bottom are scarce, they look like black rocks when wet, I think there’s a Zen to spotting them, these just appeared at my feet when I stopped for a rest amongst 50 trillion rocks of all different colors.

This reminds me of something long forgotten: as a child I had one of those coin/change maker things, with a tube for each size of coin, a slot at the top to add new ones & a lever at the bottom that pulled a coin out of the stack when giving back change. Conductors & others who had to collect money & make change while moving along would wear them on a belt. I want to call it a coin changer. Anyone know? Anyone else remember them? I remember wanting one so much. Somehow, don't know how, my dad got me one. And don''t know what ever happened to it. A real one, not a toy.

Only if it comes with a lot of coins. But might still make a great gift for a young kid who isn't so hooked that they turn up their noses at anything that isn't electronic. A few coins make them feel rich & they love being able to make things happen by themselves, not to mention dropping things into other things.

 

I have one of the change machines; my dad got it from a conductor, at least 50 years ago when the gentleman retired.
