Hello Antiquers, I hope everyone is having a good day, its mild here is SC today.
I know forums appreciate it when people do some of the leg work themselves prior to the cry for help so I did, as best as I know how anyway.
I searched Google forwards backwards and upside down but cannot find any other example or image of this specific lighter.
HISTORY: My Grandpa along with his Dad and Brothers worked at Star Peerless Brewery in Belleville IL when he was a young man. He worked in the cellars and bottle house and his Dad was in management/PR. My EditGrandpa went on to Siebels Institute, became a respected Brewmaster, and worked at Genesee Brewing in Rochester, NY until he was 70! He is gone now but my Grandma is still alive and just turned 105!
My Grandfather held onto pretty much everything related to his time in brewing because he was proud, most people that lived through the depression were, and tough too. When he passed away his Son received the bulk of his collection because he himself stepped into my Grandfathers position at the brewery when he retired. I did however receive some pretty cool Genesee stuff, bottle openers, a beer bottle with his face on it, buttons, ties, etc...all advertising stuff and things to pass on to vendors during the wining and dining they do. I can post pictures of that stuff sometime just to give you guys some more interesting things to look at.
    THE LIGHTER:
In among the items I received from him was this little baseball bat and I didn't actually discover it was a lighter until years later. As you can see by the images, the tip pulls off to expose the striker, its never been used. I have seen older baseball bat lighters on google but nothing exactly like this, nothing with the Louisville Slugger logo.
    QUESTION:
Can anyone shed some light on this little lighter or perhaps point me in the right direction? I saw a few sights regarding lighters, none like mine, and wanted to post a question like I am here but in order to post you needed to join and it wasn't free. I like the idea of sharing information freely, sometimes it feels like everyone is out to make a buck! So what do you think this lighter is worth LOL, just kidding, I just want to learn its history. Perhaps my PR Great Grandfather was talking with the H&B Company about a possible collaboration in advertising...I mean baseball and beer is a no brainer, why not a Louisville Slugger in one hand and a Star Peerless brew in the other...maybe?

I promise to work on trimming the fat of future posts, my wife just said holy book! there going to ban you!! I guess I can be a little wordy.

    Greg

These are the ones you probably found online. Just as you mentioned yours is probably special marketing for salesmen to give out? I have a coca cola bottle lighter which I've always felt was that.

As I look at it again and compare to yours, I think the one I linked above actually does look a lot like yours!

Here's a site for dating the logo on Louisville Slugger bats...might help narrow down a timeframe for your lighter.

    http://keymancollectibles.com/Louisvilleslugger.htm

Edited to add: I think the 1916-1931 is the closest - although it's feasible that they modeled the lighter after a different year than the one they were in when they made it.

Oh, I just noticed there's a forum on that site that you could post on.

I wish they had a search function in the buying / selling forum. Argh.

HI everyone, thank you for all the great help! I got the 7 day free trial of Worthpoint and it said the lighter, exactly like mine, sold for........drumroll.......$29.11 !!!!!
Well, guess I'm not retiring just yet! That was 2008 though so maybe its up to $30 by now.
I have 6 price checks remaining if anyone wants something checked out, just send me the link to the Worthpoint page of the item and I'll let you know. I agree with Figtree3, looks like the majority are older Ebay listings that sold but it may be of use to someone.

Prices are hard to predict with only one old eBay listing to go by. And I hope somebody can take you up on your offer, @Greg in SC -- that's very generous!

I use Terapeak instead of Worthpoint. They only go back 1 year so the prices shown are a little more accurate so to speak. Of course, now that ebay has their claws into them also God only knows how badly they will screw it up like they have Worthpoint.

When I am researching stuff to buy I usually do not go much beyond 6 months. When I am pricing stuff to sell I usually stick to the past 90 days unless I don't get enough data.

BTW where in SC are you located?
