Got this at a auction of a antique store that is going out of business.
BACCHANTE is the name of a English military ship & the RUGBY underneath probably refers to a famous English rugby player who had served on the Bacchante.
ANd the seal with the torch & HMS on the right side probably refers to the English military - but why would iy have a UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) US Navy seal on the left side?
Is this a real life ring from a military ship?
    How old is it?
PS - It measures 30" across
    Thanks!

My first guess would be a decor item for the ship's own rugby team.

I suspect our, the USN UDT, worked together with them on a project. Perhaps clandestine or on a submerged object possibly a ‘lost’ ship.

Could be a memento from a joint operation or joint training. Would have hung in the Enlisted Club. Rugby could just be a humerous addition

Apart from the game of Rugby (two types, Union and league) there is also a a town called Rugby in Warwickshire.

The ship was sold to New Zealand in 1982, it was decommissioned in 1999 and deliberately sunk in 2005 to be used as an artificial reef and dive attraction.

I think this item is a makeshift trophy after a Rugby Union game between the two services.

And they probably would have had the game during a joint training exercise. My husband's last duty station in the Navy was the Iceland Defense Force Joint Reserve Unit. He drilled in Iceland as did all the NATO pilots. They used to have some interesting soccer, I mean football, games. ;)
