Featured Quick help if possible-real or fake Roseville?

Only have this one pic and have to get it quickly today if real. Purchasing for resale.

Have been to all the sites to see what to look for when we get there.

But, what do you think just based on this picture? Is it real or is it Memorex?

The blue glaze on the side of the flower looks suspicious, or maybe touched up?
1. I assume if it was, the value would be significantly reduced?

2. Has a small chip on the base of the pedestal, how much could this devalue it?

Real Roseville Zephyr Lily - You'll have to examine it more closely to see if it has any repairs.

 

I agree real, but do check for USA on the bottom.

And remember if you are selling it online it will be costly to ship!

This one in green had a chip & really do think it was costly in the resell value.

The fakes I have seen have been really, really obvious. The color, molding and crispness of the detail all look good to me

They didn't send you a photo of the mark?

 

Thanks guys. The pedestal marking on that one above, just has U.S.A., is that a common thing for the pedestal part not to have the word "Roseville"?

 

Sheepishly: don't want to tip em off. Local sale so can check in person..

 

Not unusual to find real Roseville marked with only U.S.A. When USA is missing that IS a red flag to being a fake.

I HONESTLY DON'T know Roseville at ALL, other than a familiar name, but I DO see some PRETTY DARN SLOPPY painting, pretty much all over those flowers AND the blue!!!! I Couldn't enlarge any clearer as I STILL don't have my own computer back, but.........

Yes, I was suspicious about that--wonder if it has been painted with paint. Anyone else find that to be a bad thing--was this a thing Roseville might do with their glazes? I don't recall seeing that on other Roseville pieces we have purchased. Maybe this isn't worth our while after all?

 

I do see where the blue paint is on the flowers which is one red flag. Could be a copy.

Looks like I am late to this thread. I too think they are authentic. Zephyr Lily isn't one of the lines I particularly like for Roseville Pottery so I suggest only purchasing them if they are bargain/value priced with the apparent damage. Zephyr Lily always looks kind of funky to me so I am always kind of internally debating whether they are authentic or touched up because the molds and glazing usually aren't the greatest during this point in RP's history. How did things turn out?

 

Yes, that is exactly where I go with my thinking on these. Sorry for the delay with the follow-up. Could not get over to see it and it sold to someone else.

With the damage, I still wonder how much value it would have?

Also, @Joe2007, when you say, "usually aren't the greatest during this point in RP's history", what era was that, early or later, and wondering why the quality was not there during that time...

 

Zephyr Lily was produced in 1946. Roseville Pottery closed in the early 1950s. I believe I read somewhere that during the WWII era they had staffing shortages and old worn out molds causing their products to not be as high quality as they once were.

In the case of this piece considering the softness of the current art pottery market and the damage I wouldn't want to offer much more than $75 considering a pristine piece might only realize $200-300 these days.
