Featured What color would you call this bakelite necklace?

I'm trying to decide if I should bother listing this bakelite necklace but I'm not really sure what color to call it. Thanks for your opinions!

 

I'd say Red Grape but doubt that is a Bakelite color. Cranberry maybe?

 

It is a bit like cherry amber bakelite, but that is usually uniform in colour.

 

I don't think it is bakelite, as I see a seam.

Carnelian in color.

 

It is also more shiny than the bakelite I've seen, but I'm not a bakelite expert.

 

Definitely bakelite, tested w/simichrome, those aren’t seams, they’re part of the shape of the barrel beads, I’ll show a better photo when I get home later.

 

I’m wondering why only I’ve capitalized Bakelite.
Am I missing something?

 

I've seen Bakelite jewelry from Castlecliff with that flattened part around the 'equator' ... I have a large brooch with that flat 'band' across its middle.

 

Nope. I'd capitalize it as well since it's a trade name like Kleenex.

 

Actually it’s the inventors’ name which was Baekelite and accepted as Bakelite so capitalization is proper.

 

His name was Leo Baekeland, but you're right about capitalization.

I have a pretty big thick sheet of it I’ve had since about ‘76.
I was an electrical board.
Which is why the stuff was invented in the first place and as an insulator.

 

The brown and black were used for electrical applications on the Soviet Union well into the 70s if not later.

Back on the original topic, this looks like orange agate to me, so orange agate bakelite?

 

This is unlike any Bakelite necklace I've ever seen. This wasn't (by any chance) in that jar with the amber? Wondering if it a non-U.S. piece. Interesting how the beads vary in shape, although symmetrical, not all the same size or graduated which is what you normally see on Bakelite pieces.

Here is one with somewhat similar looking beads. It mentions, "glass paper tested for Faturan", not sure what that means or if relevant, but they do mention a positive on the Simichrome test.

Depends on the bakelite. "Real" bakelite is opaque brown or black. The colored stuff is catalin if memory serves, and it came in lots of different colors and mixes. An agate look isn't out of the question. These really do look a lot more like stone than bakelite, but it's possible.

It wasn't with the amber I found earlier. The simichrome test is definately positive for bakelite, pink turns mustard yellow.
