On 2 occasions i got these... things, with something else i bought. Very unassuming, but this recurring find made me curious. The first time (maybe 10 years ago) i got them with an african object (i think) and they were described as wooden weights (unlikely?). The second time in a box of mainly asian stuff (with also the two combs form my other thread, of which one of them turned out te be african).
They appear to be parts of some kind of contraption, blocks? Pulleys?. On the square ones there are clear signs of wear by rope in the ring, opposite block side. No obvious wear on the round one. On te back of the round one there's a hole with a remnant of coarse woven rope glued inside and glue remnants around the hole. One of the square ones also has a hole in the back, with stump of wood glued in? The other square one has a hole in de side and just some glue remnants on the back and .
Somehow i thought about rajasthan for the round one (there was also opiumteapot for there in the lot) but that's really a very long shot. Any one any idea's on these could be and from where?
Just mention anything that comes to mind :) Might give leads for me to search on further. IMG_0890klein.jpg IMG_0891klein.jpg

    Size please?
    Since you asked.:D
My first association was Ethiopian. The colour of the wood, like Ethiopian wooden icons. And the carving on two of them could be seen as cross-shaped, the other one not at all. To let the imagination run wild, the cavities in the backs of two of them could be for relics.......
But I'm sure it must be something else, let's wait for the others.

My money would be on European, but, like Any J, I'll wait for the others ... Goodness knows what they're for. You do have some fascinating stuff, John.

But they do look like Amish or whatever dough or cookie presses, to be stored strung on twine or yarn when not in use, or maybe they stay on the string always, since u could still use them on a slack string. Depression on back might be where a screw-type press’s spindle pressed on them.

This is listed as a southern India food press on Ebay. It's not exactly the same, but similar. mdPeKrb9ifxUXMCy_YqtPvw.jpg

Sorry, forgot (blush, don't see applicable emoji): largest one is 12 x 7 x 2 cm.
A little bit large for cookies? Carving also rather undeep, about 2 mm?

Not a clue really but my first thought was as a neck pendant/tag for an animal like a goat. Don't ask me why I thought that though....goats on the brain maybe:wacky:

That is remarkably similar! And same dimensions.

So you might have been onto something there after all, springfld.arsenal!
I'll try to find other indian food presses like that. Not entirely convinced yet. ;)

Maybe they are for goats or cattle.

Yeah, it was this time last year that I had my lost goat episode so that could be it:).

I remember that. Jim & Tom came along at our fundraiser as Yule goats. They're actually better pets than dogs. No noise and they don't jump all over you or bark.

Hmmmm, growing up we had a pet goat for a short time. She (my little sister and I named her "Honeycomb") climbed the wooden "brace" between two fence posts and jumped over the six-foot fence into the neighbor's yard. Let's just say that "Honeycomb" made short work of a very large, well-established, beautiful rose bush in a neighbor's yard which the neighbor prized (to say the least).

"Honeycomb" was in the backseat of Daddy's car (with my sister and me) the same day being taken back to the farm.

If you're wondering how she came to be named "Honeycomb" -- do you remember the popular song many years ago (1955) by Jimmie Rodgers?

Yes, my thought as well. This seller does sell a lot of south indian kitchen stuff (apart from her regular english stuf), but this still could be wrong.
I tried to send her a question through ebay, but she doesn't accept them.
Can't find any other simular item on the internet.
And try combining any search with animal. You'll end up with nothing with items in the shape of them!!! :)
