About 20 years ago I purchased a necklace and earrings in an antique centre in Amsterdam. I bought it because I liked it and did not think or expect it to be old. I was told it was a traditional piece of jewellery from Holland. Could you tell me if it is a traditional form from that area please? Photo to follow. It is the best I can do as I do not take photos as I do not have the equipment to do so.

Hi popsy. It isn't a Holland or other Dutch traditional. But it does look like it could be an early 20th century necklace inspired by traditional Dutch button jewellery.
Are there any marks? Look for a tiny sword shaped mark.

    These are Dutch button necklaces:

There is a tiny tiny mark on the clasp. There is a little rectangle with 2 letters in and another badly struck mark. I think one of the letters is a Z and my partner thinks a 2. No matter how hatd we look, we cannot make them out. Thanks for the pics, I can ee the resemblance.

That sounds like the ZI mark, a Dutch mark for used or imported sterling silver or a higher fineness than sterling. It was introduced in 1953, so your necklace would have been offered for marking or imported after that date. When it was made is anyone's guess.

with a 10times loupe, I have made out a ZII mark. Small used jewellery. Interesting, thank you.

I bought when on holiday just because I liked it. I did not think it was valuable or a wonderful buy. I was curious, after seeing Any Jewelry's pics, about the history of mine, so I dug it out.
