I bought this rug or blanket about 3 years ago from an estate sale in Palm Springs Ca.
I had it displayed in my home in a few different areas, and had friends , family ask me about it, I always said I had no idea. Time to let it go, anyone know where this was made and when ? The material feels very soft, a little bit silky feeling.
It almost looks like a learning youngster made it, or am I incorrect ?

I hope everyone is enjoying the Holiday Season with Friends and Family.
If your alone like me, make the best of it..

Maybe Mexican for the rug....maybe a saddle blanket...?

It's a little difficult to tell from the photos, but it looks almost like some of that "very soft" yarn might be a type of chenille. It doesn't have the look of typical wool yarn used in rugs. It also looks like there may be several different types of yarn used, which would partly account for the uneven weaving and edges.

If so, I'd say it's likely that this was made by a crafts weaver, probably circa 1970s, when crafts were at their height of popularity in the U.S. It doesn't appear to be something made just for sale, as one would expect from a Mexican rug, which would have better craftsmanship. It might have been made in a weaving class.

On the other hand, it might be a Mexican rug, that some previous owner put it in the washer and dryer, resulting in the odd texture and shape it's in. All I can definitely say, is it isn't Native American.

Thanks Taupou, very good explanation you gave. That makes a lot of sense to me now, though I know it's not of Native American Indians. When I first got it, I had a strong feeling it was Mexican made or Southwestern from Az. Just didn't know exactly what to tell my guest.

I think Mexican, with some chenille bands, and possibly the washer and dryer result for the shape, which Taupou already mentioned. The chenille looks intentional to me.

    Merry Christmas Billy.
Nothing fancy here either, neither of us have the energy. I bought something nice for Christmas dinner, just hope I will manage to put it in the oven and serve something decent along with it.

    Hi Billy,
Merry Christmas. I remember the first Christmas all alone in a strange city.
It was horrible and I swore it would never happen again.
