    Hello Folks,
2020 is nearly in the record books. Please post your favorite purchase (or purchases) of the year and tell us something about it. If you haven't yet acquired your "white whale" for 2020 yet you still have a bit more time but as they say the clock is ticking. So go photograph that favorite and gather your thoughts about it to share here!

Now lets enjoy some eye candy!

Now the regulars here have likely already seen my two top favorite purchases of 2020 previously but I'd like to show them off again.

Item #1 is a pair of scarce Rookwood Pottery Rook bookends. These are the larger size bookends and I had previously seen a few pairs of these in the past at estate auctions but this is the first time I was able to successfully win the bid. I absolutely love the dark blue glaze on them!

Item #2 is a 1908 William Howard Taft Campaign plate which shows all of the GOP nominees back to the founding of the party. I had also seen this piece previously about five years ago at a high end auction but was unable to afford that example. This time around I was able to win this one for considerably less.

I love this Japanese cloisonne box with drawers, beautifully decorated on 5 sides, solid and heavy. It is sitting in my work room where I can enjoy it every day. Apparently I am keeping it, at least for now.

The mark on the bottom may be for the Inaba company.

I don't buy a lot because I usually get most stuff for free or paid to take it away.
However as a coin collector I did buy this from the Royal Mint. for £62

Silver Proof Fifty Pence coin struck to commemorate Brexit.

I won't go into the why's and wherefores because it will become political, just suffice to say it was something I felt passonate about and the majority of the citizens voted for.

    Royal Mint has sold out.

Research shows they are now selling for between £40 - £110

Got this cameo a month or so ago at a house call. She was filthy and had Byne's disease (a condition where "whitish powdery, grimy, crusty or spidery looking marks" appear on the surface). I cleaned her up, IDed the carver with the help of Bronwen, and keep looking at her. I bought her to sell but she is convincing me that she needs to move into my jewelry box :)

Does the cameo need your box? Or does your box need the cameo?

She looks just great, & so much more interesting than a stock pretty lady. Now you have to find occasions to wear her, when occasions are safe again.

Very nice everyone. I don't think I bought anything for myself this year.
I bought a lot of vintage cookbooks, my favorite being BC Pie Cover Cookbooks and Settlement Cookbooks, but they are all going to go to a new home I hope once I have browsed thru the pages and listed em all.

It's a group of things, rather than a thing-thing, but: The pieces of Tiffany silver I bought.

    Two card cases,
    One cutlery set.
    One fountain pen.

Wow, some beautiful stuff. Love it all, especially the bookends and the cameo. My knowledge of coins is 0, but I like that one. That Danish bracelet....*sound of whistle.* Last but far from least, I've never seen a jar with a cameo-type lid like that. Whether you need it or not, there are some things that you HAVE to make room for!

So, here are 2020's raving faves. A bit blurry, shot with my phone:

I've found out that this bookcase was made in Philadelphia ca. 1870 by Daniel Pabst: Woohoo!!!!!!!

Next is a credenza, made in Philadelphia ca. 1850. The three French Art Nouveau lamps are also new :) Screen Shot 2020-12-10 at 12.50.17 PM.png

Hoping Santa comes through. A Waterbury regulatory, made in Connecticut ca. 1896: Screen Shot 2020-12-10 at 12.50.35 PM.png
