I picked this up a few days ago. How do you go about authenticating it? And possibly the value of something like this.

I'm no expert....but when I think pre-co...I look for thin arms and & thick eye lids.....not a guy in a parka with a hood !

Or exactly like that, the same maker. It is cute.
No pre-Columbian culture made glazed terracotta.

Some have thick arms, but never like the eskimo statue.

It's commercial stoneware, not terracotta; contemporary studio pottery, not pre-Columbian; and depicts an Eskimo.

Sorry that last post was late to the thread. I wrote it out, got a phone call, and completely forgot to hit "Post Reply." Until now....

So now the question....where did you pick this up and how did you come to think it was pre-columbian ...and worth anything ?

Well I assumed it was, but that’s what makes us human. We’re entitled to make mistakes, I like to look at it as a part of learning. That’s why I like this forum. There’s so many knowledgeable people on here. Even if a few people can be condescending. But thanks for your helpful reply :)

Well I had to ask because you seemed to know what it was ....or maybe you were sold it by a charlatan , & could get your money back.

Honestly I had no idea what it was. It was different and slightly resembled some of the precolumbian relics I’ve seen. I saw the hole at the bottom and assumed it might have gone on a stand like I’ve seen some of precolumbian terracottas. I got it at a local junk shop. I’ve been trying to expand, and learn about a lot of different things. Especially with asian porcelain. For some reason that’s been the most difficult to learn.

Like komo, I thought someone may have told you it was pre-Columbian.
It is just a lovely figurine, enjoy it.
Chinese porcelain is a minefield. But I think you already gathered that on this forum.
