Finally found some vintage Christmas at an estate sale last week.

Any idea what these long mercury glass tube things would be used for? Just sticking in plants or something?

Also, not PGP, but anyone know if this type of older pipe cleaner (not sure what to call it) is collected. Seems like the kind used to make those old pipe cleaner Santas, etc.

We were posting at the same time. I believe you are right. They would be clear if they were bubble lights and the finish looks opaque on those.

Yes though I thought the idea was just to replace burnt out ones. :)

Those tube things might also be what florists call "picks." The lower extension parts are designed to stick into "oasis" they use to hold (and water) flower stems and greens in a floral display.

Just back. Thanks for all the responses.

The bottom wire is not something that would easily bend. Like clothes hanger thickness almost.

Might be for a floral arrangement as suggested.

They have some age -- they are that "mercury glass".

    Thanks all!

Any thoughts on the pipe cleaner material. Is there a name for this vintage type that has a fluctuation in width?

They're called bump chenille stems. They're very collectible.
