I purchased these about 7 years ago and not sure if they are copies or real.
    Thanks for any help.

What do you mean by a wall hanger? I thought the 2 pieces on the sides are for strapping it to you?

Funny....I though those two eye hooks were for running a wire between them like a picture frame, and hanging it on the wall.
I doubt that thing would hold water if it was laid on it's side...

Welcome to the forum Redleg. Two beautiful items, but could you give the measurements, and a picture of the back of the canteen, and the side, where the two halves meet? And please post them full image.

The canteen could be a powder flask, if it is the right size. Beautiful quality.
It is made in Indo-Persian style to resemble a dhal shield, commonly used in South Asia. Dhal = pea or any kind of pulse, the shields are nicknamed after the dome-shaped decorations that make it look like peas on a plate.
As you thought, the two rings on the sides are for strapping it to a person, or a horse.

The oil lamp is from India. A traditional model, but no natural wear on the parts where you'd expect it: handle, the bottom of the bird on the handle, the top of the small bird, or the part where the wick burns.
Still, a very pretty piece. The script is Devanagari, a script which is used for Sanskrit and many other Asian languages.

The brass powder flask is 12 inches in diameter. Here is a picture of the back and thanks for the help on these 2 objects.

    Neither have I.
More dhal shields, or are you asking Redleg for more pictures of the flask (whatever it is)? He may have trouble uploading pictures?

No, I was asking you to show me where this is anything more than a tourist wall hanging..
    I'm open to learn....

I have no idea what it is, we're waiting for more pictures.
But how is it a wall hanging if the back isn't flat? When lying on its back, the sides are raised in such a way that the back must be as convex as the front:

Those hanging things are attached to the front, that doesn't make sense for a wall hanging. And wouldn't it be simpler for the maker to have just made a dhal shield? Tourists love those, so they'd sell better than a mystery object.
The spout is puzzling, but has to have a purpose.
    We need more pictures.

only if we're sure that's the front.....

in any case i don't see it usable for powder or water.......

    but ya...more pics needed...

and in any case...wouldn't the hangers be better placed on the rim...where they would not impact the veracity of the canteen...and be sure to hang level...???

Maybe there are hangers on the back as well.
Not powder, that is why I said if it is the right size, which it isn't. Water, maybe, if carried by a horse/camel/elephant. Or some other kind of storage thing. With that double-sided shape it has to be based on a traditional 'thing'. After we see more pictures we can search for that 'thing'.;)

    and don't the shields always have 4 nubs...not 5...?

Yes, of course it's based on something traditional ...likely the shield form.....
and meant to be hung on the wall...as a tourist gift !

What type of pictures do you need of the powder flask?

I think we have already established that it is too big to be a powder flask. That was just a suggestion before you gave the dimensions. Flask will do as a 'working title'.;)
A picture of the back of the canteen, and the side where the two halves meet, so we can get an idea what it looks like. And please post them full image.
