Thanks for your visit and comments....I still believe there is some dexterity on this painting...Particularly the LIGHT..Not so well translated by my photos...I won't be surprised that there is something which has been removed under...And added later..?? Here some details...

 

It can be that something is under, or just the canvas was primed using not white paint, but umbra or sienna.

 

In my humble experience, the light isn't great, it's a mediocre landscape painting at best, by my point of view. From the analysis of the back, it does appear to be the first (and likely only) painting that was done on these stretcher bars.

Hi April! Good to see you posting! I think you may have hit the nail on the head. It's obviously not white gesso (by my eye) and that would explain the odd brown color tone across the entire back. Thank you so much.
