Are there any maker's marks on the back? Too many reflections on the stones, but they may be low grade Mexican jelly opal.

Just 925 on the connector ring. This is what it looks like under an inside lamp:

Was this in the large lot you showed?
    I don't remember seeing it.

Unfortunately not saphiret in my opinion.

Might be some kind of jelly opal as Hollyblue suggested.

(Cluttered, I think this was the possible saphiret cross that was left behind that Barn Owl was contemplating going back for. Mentioned in an earlier post.)

Even if not a saphiret, not a bad purchase. $12, right? Seems like it has a nice amount of sterling.

If it was saphiret, you'd be looking at $400+, so was a good gamble.

    Yes, photos are excellent.

Thank you! :) This wasn't in the big lot. It was at the antique store. I traded it for a colored glass compote, so I got a slightly better deal than what it was priced at.

That's too bad. I'll probably take it to a jewelers to see if they can figure out what kind of stones they are :)

They're opals of some kind. Jelly opal would be my guess too. I think you came out ahead on that trade, especially if you're going to sell/ship this. Shipping glass is a royal pain, while jewelry is dead easy.

These earrings aren't saphiret either, right?

Yeah, I had a nightmare shipping a plate. It cost me $30 to ship it.
I liked the compote, but I like this even more and it'll be easier to sell, I figure.

The connector ring is called a "bale".
If you are interested in selling jewelry you might want to check these links out.
Or you might go to your local library and see what they have for reference books.

If you find books you like, and want for your own reference, then you can often find them on abebooks.com

No, sorry. They're glass. With the luster, they are called borealis(sp).
    Probably 1950s-60s.

The cross is Mexican, the stones are Mexican crystal opals, not jelly opals.
Jelly opals are transparent with a bluish sheen. Crystal opals are transparent to translucent precious opals that display various colours. I can see blue, green, turquoise and violet/purple in the stones, they are definitely crystal opals.

How much would you say a cross like this is worth?

Sorry, don't know, but you've got enough information now to google it, I think.
