Another find from the flea market today were these cuff links for $25. They are real Cartier sterling however, having a hard time finding out much online. Here are two links to the same cuff links, but they are both vermeil whereas I have one vermeil and one regular silver.... Either way they are awesome and maybe they came like that? This one website claims 1930s, is that right? Also, $1,600 seems like A LOT. https://www.1stdibs.com/jewelry/cuf...terling-vermeil-crown-cufflinks/id-j_2221343/ http://alicekwartler.com/product/cartier-sterling-vermeil-crown-cufflinks/

Is the box real morocco or faux?

Honestly, not sure all I know is it is sterling and the markings are spot on.... As for the box no idea! Thought I'd take a chance at $25 never bought Cartier before.

$1600 is an asking price...and it's not firm.....
Theirs may be nicer than yours.....but one can ask whatever they want....
You'll need to find a sold pair...for a better idea.

Thanks Komo as always! Their price is way too much, i was more curious in the fact if you guys thought they were right on the 1930s time frame? and do you think mine really did come with one vermeil and one silver? I wouldn't think the vermeil would completely wear off one like that... The lady I bought them from said she got them from an estate of an older gentleman who had an extensive cufflink collection.

Also, is it safe to polish vermeil or will the gold come off?

I wouldn't polish anything just yet.
The differences are indeed interesting..... unless it's a fault of the process.
A crown is , to me , a strange design for the 30's......let's see if others can come up with more solid info...

Pretty cufflinks, I'm sure they look great on a shirt.
No, they wouldn't. You've got two singles. If you see the seller again, you can ask if he/she has more like these, and find the matching ones. Or you can start your own mixed cufflink fashion, and give anyone who comments on it the evil eye.:hilarious:
The crowns look 80s or later to me. Does anyone know if Cartier actually made crown cufflinks?
A very important question spartcom, something you will need to check.
There is a lot of Cartier replica jewellery, sold as 'honest' replicas, and there is even more fake Cartier jewellery. Containerloads are destroyed regularly. If the manufacturers/traders don't mind containerloads being destroyed, they are making enough on the loads that pass through undetected. Debora wasn't just asking because she thought it a pretty box, but because every detail contains information, including the box.

Thanks everyone! Honestly think I probably could've saved $25 on these but oh well. It was a chance to buy my first Cartier. I checked again and the box doesn't feel great, could be fake.

Didn't even know CARTIER made cuff links but seems they do. Plenty of boxes to be found on internet for comparison. (It won't be leather.) But must say... stamping on one looks a bit wonky. Perhaps just the photo? At any rate, fun find.

I would have taken a chance and bought them too but it's odd that the backs of the cufflinks are tarnished and look a bit dirty but the Cartier name is shining clean and bright. As it's recessed you would expect it to have dirt/dust etc in it. They aren't the same as the diamond and oval shapes around the crown base differ.

Coincidence, I watched a Youtube last night where the British Antiques Roadshow was showing the difference between 4 watches -- 3 of them fake, one real.

Spoiler: The Cartier was one of the fakes.

Doesn't mean these cufflinks are real or fake, but as Debora said, take a good look at the box for starters.

Also, if this was sold by some kind of person who runs a weekly flea market booth, I would suspect they would have looked into the authenticity of these already. Most sellers have heard of "Cartier". Additionally, if they were still sitting there, with the very visible "Cartier" on the open box, one has to assume that other buyers passed on them for one reason or another. Not a definite, but something to take into account unless you were digging through things the minute the place opened.

From the photos, as mentioned the backs looks worn. I would be suspect.

Please continue to research though. I don't have them in the hand and certainly hope they are the real deal.

I remember buying two Rolex watches a decade ago with high hopes (luckily not expensive). Both were fakes.

    Hi,
The fastest way to see if you got a FAKE Rolex is to watch the second hand. On real Roflex they sweep by if they click and hesitate for a nanosecond they are Fakes.

One surefire way to find out. Take them into CARTIER for repair and refurbishing.

Of course there are no boutiques around me! Ugh, I'm stumped! I will email them! Last time I found a Georg Jensen piece I emailed them pictures and they gave me many details, don't know about Cartier though.
