I'm pretty sure that the word under the JC is Navajo ... I can't find any button where the word isn't only partially stamped. I looked for the JC stamp here, http://www.art-amerindien.com/signature_hallmarks_southwest_gl.htm#l
But can't find one that looks conjoined and in the same font.

Any suggestions on where else to search?
Do button makers usually also make jewelry?
    Anyone else see "Navajo"?

^^^ the yellow in the photo is really just reflections and tarnish ...

Maybe Jacqueline Cleveland, wife of Albert, some stuff she did with him signed AJC and on her own just JC.

Thank you (again:) ) I'll go check out her work and see what her mark looks like ... and whether she did any buttons.

i have no problem with their authenticity....
buttons are jewelry, same as belts, wrist guards.....ect...

the stamping looked good from your 1st pics....the backs confirm that !

Just a few JC's, I think the top two could be candidates, although your J and C look joined:

Thank you, komo. Funny, I can see the 'Navajo' much easier in the photos than in real life ... probably would have seen it better if I used my better loupe.

Yes the letters are joined and appear to maybe have slightly bulbous terminals. I thought the joining may have been by accident or due to space limitations on the little buttons, but they are also joined on the larger buttons where it wouldn't have been necessary.

Yes, probably deliberately joined, so yet another JC.

Looks like the initials, sterling and Navajo were stamped first on flat silver. It was flipped and the front design stamped and then the pieces were domed. The words, etc. were distorted when the front side was stamped.

more likely the doming does not give a flat surface to mark a finished work....

    Thanks, Hollyblue :)
I was wondering how they were able to stamp the inside of a small curved surface like this without having it affect the top side.
