    dear all

this time there is no welding of foreign bits onto the coin :hilarious::hilarious:
nice/clever construction of the frame with the 2 ends coming together to form the screw. it is a fob, right?

    regards

The frame is known as a Bezel, its for hanging on a chain, often around the neck.

Pendant. These are mostly from the early '70s when Nixon repealed the prohibition on owning gold.

That screw part does make it look like a fob rather than a pendant, but what do I know. Anyway, it is a nice solution, the coin can still be taken out.

not 1970s new because my mum and dad would not do that to a 1904 coin. they would keep it in as a coin, i know, because they have a small collection of coins in plastic sleeves :p:facepalm::D

They may have picked it up that way second hand. The condition makes it not a collector coin to them. It was probably worth about $35 at the time.

There is no doubt it is a Double Eagle, if it weighs 33.436 grams.
It has dings at 4 o`clock and 8 o`clock on the obverse and 12 o`clock on the reverse so its melt value only
    Worth $1,242.27 today.

That screw arrangement is a common enough way of putting together magnifying glasses.

marks or scratches? very difficult to get a good photo because the ring doesn't move :( anyone care to hazard a guess? else will mark as 1970s or later gold souvenir pendant. tq to all! :)

That is not where they would normally be marked, if marked. The nut part is most likely gold plated/ gold filled.

The bezel, being the round piece that goes around the coin is unimportant. Most likely gold plated unless it is marked.
What is important is the coin itself.

    Hi,
Hang it around your neck. The watch fobs are smaller usually no bigger than a nickl
