Featured Age and value of dresser

    IMG_3315a.jpg IMG_3309b.jpg IMG_3314a.jpg IMG_3317.JPG IMG_3318.JPG IMG_3310.JPG IMG_3313.JPG IMG_3316.JPG I was at a friends grandmothers house and he was cleaning out garage...He asked me about this piece of furniture and I couldn't tell him much. The hardware is new, the dovetailing front and back look old. the one piece drawer bottom was a very thick wood.. So I am guessing 1850's but I need your help...I am out of my comfort range...

    I think 1850 is about right. Late classical (often mis-named Empire). Was once told that these with the tapered architectural columns are a NYC variant. Don't know if this is true or not.

    Thank you if I got the age right possibly I have the value as well...I would say in great condition $450....as it stands $275

    Think your values ambitious. Here in the Midwest, I rarely see such chests, even really nice ones, over $250.00. Can be bought at auctions for less than $100.00. Sometimes a lot less. May do better in other locations but this furniture is not in favor right now.

    Yes, i agree, it's just not in fashion these days plus A LOT of it still around. Typical mid 19th century panel construction & appears to be solid wood and not veneer which was common on late classical pieces.
