There are two brackets on the back, looks like it was once part of another piece of jewellery, a necklace maybe? Or a parure set?

The chain does not appear to be original to the piece, looks like a add on.

Your right , it does look like that , it takes away from the stones for sure . I was actually more interested in the heart stamped on it -

We need the costume joolies for that, I guess they've been far too busy with Thanskgiving and Black Friday.
I am more of a fine/antique/ethnic jewellery person, so I can't help you, sorry.

regarding the categories...I thought there were only two categories based on their design and material without considering the time element of antique or vintage i,e, precious jewelry (fine jewelry), and costume jewelry. I thought ethnic jewelry which I suppose is also called tribal jewelry would fall in either the precious jewelry group or the non precious or costume jewelry group. Is it considered as separate?

Ethnic jewellery, though generally made of precious metals, has a separate 'following'. In auctions and museum collections it is seen as part of ethnographic art, not of jewellery. Don't ask me why, it is just as much jewellery as Western jewellery, but one could argue that symbolism is of greater inportance than in Western jewellery. It is also less influenced by fashion, although there are certainly changes due to outside influences and changing tastes.
Most ethnic jewellery is non-tribal, just like most ethnographic art is non-tribal.

As an aside, we sell ethnic jewellery in our Etsy shop, and I make it a point to include regional European, Viking and Celtic jewellery, and Native American jewellery.

that is quite interesting explanation ,thanks any Jewelry....lately I was reading on costume jewelry so that is why the question pooped in my mind...
p.s.i used to live in NL, years back, but back then i was only interested in regular visits to various art Museums and did not spend time looking out for antiques,,I guess If I am living there now,I know what to do and where to look :)

Gelderland has some very small towns.:) Including Bronkhorst (population 157) which claims to be the smallest town of the Netherlands. It isn't, but it brings in the tourists.;)

Amazingly Bronkhorst even has a Jewish graveyard, a heritage site. But four towns are smaller, and all have official medieval town rights.
And in relation to my family.:) My great-grandmother came from Arnhem. My great-grandfather was chased out of his hometown of 's Hertogenbosch, Brabant, for addressing the issue of poor living conditions for labourers. He was seen as a traitor to his class. But he was welcome in Nijmegen, Gelderland. As soon as he arrived he was offered the job of editor for the newspaper 'de Gelderlander', still regarded as a quality paper in the Netherlands.

both Anhem and Nijmegen are nice cities. Especially I know Arnhem very well.It is amazing to know that Nijmegen had its socialist tendencies and roots as far back as then....
