I miss you guys. I have been trying to work full-time/over-time and clean out my uncle's house. He has a two-story house with a huge barn and a tool shed that is really a working garage. I am making headway, but it is an arduous process. I hate to throw stuff away, my sister took a truck load last week to sell at a local flea market.

I have been bummed out lately because I just can't get up early enough to find the treasures.... but here are some I found in the last month, with stories.

There's a guy I buy jewelry off of at my one flea market, but he didn't have much that day. Another guy picked this up and thought the price of $15 was too much, so he put it back down. We all looked at it and couldn't figure out what it was. I walked away and my treasure-hunting senses told me to go back for it, which I did.
Turns out it is a circular slide rule, circa 1900.

Then I grabbed this cool hard plastic Hawaiian doll for $10. She is modeled after a 1950's Hawaiian singer, I will look it again, forgot her name.


I went to a church sale yesterday that was really crummy, was mostly crafts and antique dealers who wanted way too much for their stuff. I am tired of hearing "This would sell for $150 on Fifth Avenue in New York." You are at a church sale in the sticks, for goodness sake. Bought nothing there, went to a school yard sale, should have gone there first. I could tell I missed stuff by what was left and the prices, but I also got the "This goes for lalala in New York" there.

So I was feeling down, thinking my treasure-hunting days were really over (do you guys ever get like this during dry spells?) and I stopped in a couple of thrifts on the way home. Found some wool, silk, and cashmere scarves, felt a bit better, but not thrilled.

As I was buying the last of my scarves at the last of my thrift shops, I spied this on the counter in back of the register

I asked if it was for sale, and was told it had to be examined first. After examination, I bought it for $3. I didn't loop it in the store (learned that) and was hoping the chain was rose gold-filled (the locket is broken, won't stay shut.)

When I looped it in the car, I found the 14k mark on the chain. It is a heavy, 22 inch 14k rose gold watch chain that was converted into a necklace. I absolutely love it, and I am searching for a pendant to put on it (antique rose gold, preferably a locket.) I also want to see if this GF locket can be fixed.

I finally cheered up a tad.

 

I also got this 9 ct rose gold synthetic alexandrite bar brooch, not a bargain at the antique mall, but Merry Christmas to me. They know me, and get their smartphones out to look up everything I bring to the counter. I am lucky I am born in June and have three birthstones, pearls, alexandrites, and moonstones.

It has been weeks since I viewed the Finds thread... So many nice finds...

 

Nice finds, Marko! I'm glad that things improved as the day went on.

 

Nice one on the chain, Marko! I'll bet they saw the busted gold-filled locket and didn't even think to look at the chain. So much the better for you. I went out this weekend and came back with $7 in quilt fabric, a piece of block optic glass in pink for a friend, and some bits of Trifari not worth the batteries to photograph.

And for those who remember that no photo lot I bought a while back, I'm not bothering with a photo either. A lot of it went into the trash where it should have been all along. Call it a loser lottery ticket.

 

Very nice finds everyone. I hit a few estate sales yesterday. One was a collector of all things Snoopy, Peanuts etc. I got a few of the Fire-King Peanuts kind of glass mugs there from the 1960's and a few other goodies. The prices are way down on these mugs but I didn't pay much at all. I probably should have bought more things but wanted to stay in the lane of things I know more about.

Second sale was a very nice family, but not great stuff. Got some NOS vintage measuring spoons in the original package.

I must be getting old, by the time I go to a few sales and shop, I get pooped out. I am no spring chicken anymore it seems.

 

Yeah, I get tired too...... I had great plans of when I retired of doing shows and selling all this stuff someday, but I doubt I will have the energy....barely have the energy now to do all I have to do. Big difference between 50 and 60, I am finding out.

 

And in Alabama it would be worth $1.39 so what’s their point.

 

My mistake - type Cubist over the Block Optic. I think it was made again in the 1950s by another factory. (Indiana?)
