I try to be a disciplined buyer. I set myself a limit, and when I hit that point I stop. That is usually how it works. However sometimes you see something and self-control goes out the window.

This Streamliter hit my limit. Then it doubled that number. Thankfully it stopped short of treble of limit.

I can't tell you how excited I am to get it working again (needs a new wick and that's it).
I have been around airplanes all my life, and have probably spent hundreds of hours as passenger/dock hand in DH Beavers and Otters.

My father would often tell me of an uncle shot down over Europe as an RAF Pathfinder. As a birthday gift I got him an hour flight in a Beechcraft Expeditor, (it was as much a gift for myself as it was for him).

My wife's grandfather was USAF WWII bomber pilot decorated in both Asian and European theatres.

    Wow!!!
I’m confused, was that uncle your uncle or your Dad’s?
    -
What did grandpa fly and thank your wife for his service! :)
    -
Have you read; The Candy Bombers?
I just got a related book as well.
    -
Ok... You’ll just not believe what I just got. :) >>>

    My wife's Grandfather flew an A-29 and a B-29 I believe.

My grandfather was also in the RCAF but was stationed in Manitoba, Canada (which might possibly be the furthest one could get from any front).

Uncle was my Dad's uncle. My father always wanted to fly helicopters but it was the 60s, and would have had to go to the US to learn, which of course would have meant Vietnam, so he stayed in Canada, did fire tower duty and spent his youth working for the Forestry Service flying around in bush planes.

My father read Young Bush Pilot by Jack Hambleton and it changed his life, and fueled his love of the north and small planes.

I will have to track down Candy Bombers. I read The Right Stuff as a kid, but think it deserves a re-read.

A-29 is a very much newer aircraft. Sure that’s correct?
B-29 pretty much everyone here would know that one. :)
    -
I’m not in recollection of whether I read RS or not.
    -
Did you see the pin? :)

I love that pin! Colour me jealous.

You are correct, it was the A-26 and the B-29 that he flew.

I’ve never seen such a thing!
    Quite pleased to find it!
    -
When I was little I used to have metal wind-up seaplanes for the tub! I must’ve worn out a dozen of those! Then I’d whine about it til my Grandma hauled me over to NY City to get another!
    Wish I had those now!!!
Once in awhile I search for one. I’m sure I’d recognize it.
    Point to this?
I’ve always wanted to take off and land on water. :)

My father-in-law flew a Catalina in Asia and the South Pacific in WWII. He trained in the US.
He was one of the Dutch Indonesian pilots who were stationed in Broome and Darwin, Australia, during that period. The Australians thought it quite exotic and welcomed him as a 'Javanese prince'.:wideyed:

    Hi KoT,
I used to take the plane to Fire Island. It always landed on the water and you had to get out and walk about another 100 ft to reach land. Landing on water is a bit scarey at first.
