Featured umbrella soap?

    dear all

    can anyone tell me more about this brand? i have seen their old signs up for sale. the one i have has 5 different languages on it: anti-clockwise from top right, javanese, siamese, chinese, tamil and malay :D

    Sorry, don't know the brand, but like the sign. All those languages, and it reduces labour, who could ask for more?;)

    I like the way the "umbrella" drawing is positioned so that it is (or could be?) read as "Jumbrella."

    It made me think it was a clever way to "fool" someone into reading it as "Jumbrella" thus giving a "hint" of "jumbo" in size or "jumbo" in the number of things it will clean. ;)

    Here's a 1935 ad from a Singapore newspaper for Umbrella Soap. Packaging looks to be slightly different so not definitive for dating. Product of Lever Bros.

    just realised why we have the sign. my grandfather worked for sime darby back then. as they say, every piece has a history :happy::joyful::D

    Are you going to keep it now?
    We have an enameled sign from the 1950s on a wall of our roof terrace (walls on two sides). Our house was once the managerial residence of a factory, and the sign was on the factory wall. We had it at ground level first, but two 'respectable looking' ladies almost walked off with it, so I took it to the roof terrace. I didn't even know it was that desirable, but it is part of the history of the house, so it stays here.
