    Hello friends,

today I bring to your attention this stone sculpture of a .... Madonna?

    This object intrigues me because:

    - it looks like a modern and stylized style, but from the condition of the material it seems to me rather an old object

    - that black "dot" on the face is not a painted eye, but a stain of the stone, they are also present on the right side of the body and on the back

    - on the back, it has a sort of very hard "lacquer", it is above the stone and I don't understand what it is. It might be glue, but I don't understand what the sense is, since it doesn't have any break.

    - it should be stone, it is quite heavy, 492 grams compared to a height of only 20 cm (width of 5.5 cm, depth of 4 cm)

    - it is very cold to the touch, it looks like it just came out of the freezer :)

    - I keep asking myself: why is the face flat and curved and not defined?

    - I bought it online in England a few years ago, at an auction house, inside a lot of various objects

I've always kept it on a shelf, but as I look at it it makes me curious.

I'd like to be able to date her and understand what we're talking about.

    Thank you all

    Hi,
I am getting a feeling that it is "marble" from Ireland. Don"t know for sure just a guess.

Yes, it is a Madonna. The stone looks like serpentine to me. I have no idea of the origin though.
I think it has just finished a bottle of sparkling wine.:wideyed:
