    hi folks

these are 3 little bits i found in a charity shop last week, £2 for the brooch, and 50p each for the others

im presuming the brooch is rolled gold, as the surface colour is inconsistent, marked 9C and cross mark (been repaired)

shona carved pendant ?(probably quite new), dont know what the fossil is, but thought it would look nice in a ring

    any thoughts appreciated

The fossil is an ammonite of some type.

You can try some metal polish on the brooch, 9ct gets tarnished/discoloured quite easily

It looks like someone replaced the clasp at some point, accounting for the damage.

Three lovely pieces that couldn’t be more different. The brooch is gorgeous. I really hope it is 9ct for you. The face pendant is really cool even if it’s modern and I do like a fossil!

Thanks my friend. Yeah will have to get it cleaned and tested, as wouldn't be comfortable selling as 9ct the way it looks

I can certainly see why the charity shop didn't think it was gold, but thought worth a risk

Brooch is fine, hollow 9 carat late 19th C. It's been mended, that's all. NO METAL POLISH. A Sunshine cloth will get it looking decent.

What would I do without ya:)

Thanks obb, I thought it being hollow was a good sign, older than I thought as well

The stone has been removed, probably when the piece was repaired and it may not be the original stone.

Those Persian turquoise cabochons are typical of Victorian and Edwardian pieces. We imported tonnes of the stuff.

I agree, 9ct, late 1890s and Persian turquoise.
These brooches often have Persian turquoise cabs, sometimes a little opal cab or a ruby or sapphire.

For centuries Persia was the world leader in turquoise. Persian turquoise has the greatest variety in colour of all turquoise regions, but this specific colour has always been sought after most.
We call it turquoise, after Turkey, because European traders used to think the stones they bought in Turkey were mined locally. They were of course imported to Turkey from Persia. In Indonesia turquoise is called 'pirus', which means Persian.;)

    Awesome info Aj, many thanks

I was almost too embarrassed to post thinking there's no way it's going to be gold :)

Small though it might be the stone is a beautiful colour

Finally just ordered some G + S test solutions, so finally can test all my iffy pieces as well

I can always trump you with some ‘treasure’ to give everyone a giggle as to what scrap I’ve found.
    These are beautiful pieces :)
