I forget what these were originally called when we were younger. The glass is thick and removable

I really am getting my query on today!
We were discussing what our Auntie used to call these. She called them hanging votive holders. Made of brass? Or copper and glass. It's a thick glass that reminds me of depression glass? We had similar ones in the eighties... But I remember they were called by a different name somewhere else. They were made in India and back then we had items from all over the world. So I just need to know for my own curiosity and say I Told You So 20171104_142614-COLLAGE.jpg IMG_20171104_135038.jpg 20171104_142614-COLLAGE.jpg

The word votive is an adjective, so something can't be a votive holder.
Maybe hanging votive candle holders or hanging votive light holders. She could have meant a holder for votive offerings, but I doubt that.

I was really young. She had her own lingo of sorts. That's why I think we are baffled. Are you familiar with these?

What? Slowly Please :) You may be correct!! Omy... Although these were used for candles. Not flowers. I would suppose one could use them for flowers?

It is probably easier to use them for flowers than for candles.
People have the strangest names for things. I am guilty of that too.

Do you really think that they are Tussie Mussie's ? Although similar. These are not so ornate

The word votive is used to describe a particular size and shape of candle here in the US. They were a trendy item for a while, later replaced by "tealight" candles. Those were the bits used to keep kettles on stand warm.

I guess I didn't understand what bits were used to keep kettles on stand? Sorry, that part befuddles me. But I get what a votive is tho :) Thanks, evelyb30

The holders are 11"in tall and the glass "votive holders" are 4.5"in tall.
They have a bit of weight to them as well.
A Tussie Mussie / nosegay as I just researched is much smaller and was a well thought out gift for someone special. Also used as a way to diffuse surrounding smells.
Thanks for the fun lesson :)

Rightly or wrongly I know some people call cone shaped vases that hang on door knobs ect by tussie mussie / tussy mussy.

I don't know that I've ever really called them anything. I've always liked the cone shaped vases meant for car dashes and cone shaped epergne vases myself:).

I'm curious, have you figured out what you called them?

Wall pockets are generally flat on the back, the better to hang on a wall. These are pretty.
Tealight candles. The kettle sits on its stand, and the tealight sits in a cup in the stand or a in a cup that fits into the stand. The heat keeps the tea warm.
