Another “just now” $avers pick, in a bag for $3.99. Love the place card holders, especially the little clamshell one by Leonore Doxsow.
Also got a huge 4 point Hudson Bay blanket for $14.99+.

A couple more of my auction wins arrived today. I got all these pocket watch crystals. A few of them were broken but it doesn't matter.

My best auction win were these 3 pocket watches and chains. I can't believe my luck. I can't remember how much I paid but it was less than 20 pounds.

    WP_20201105_16_27_43_Pro.jpg

The first gold colored watch I looked at all looked very good and I wound it and it works flawlessly, I can't find any issues with it other than it having a broken hinge where the back cover goes on. It also has a nice weight to it, worth every penny for this watch alone.

    WP_20201105_16_28_31_Pro.jpg

I checked the other gold colored watch and everything looks good apart from the balance wheel not looking right but it looks like a simple repair the rest of the movement looks pretty good and clean. I'm building up a nice collection of these watches.

    WP_20201105_16_27_56_Pro.jpg

The movement winds and somewhat ticked but needs a good clean and I have the original case for that movement so I'm very chuffed with this lot.

I'm going to see if I can straighten out the hand and give the dial a light careful clean and repair the hole.

How about a late 1880's lap desk? I'd love to be able to in this thing down a little more closely. It has hinges that are unique, unlike *any* other lapdesk I could find pictures for.

I love that your car has a shelf for the silver! Very classy :hilarious:. Mine has a base layer of sweet wrappers, a genteel layer of dog fluff with a topping of fuel receipts.

    Hi komokwa,

Here's a pic of how the vast majority of lap desks I've found pics of are hinged:

    LD5.JPG
As you can see, the case halves are hinged, while the writing panels "hinge" with the leather of the writing surface. The hinges are clearly mounted to the two case halves. Mine takes a different approach:

    LapTop2A.jpg
With this oddball, the two outer leaves of the hinges carry the writing panels, while the two inner leaves are fastened to the two case halves... all one hinge, which is mounted a bit more 'inboard,' seemingly mounted to the writing panels. It actually IS mounted to the writing panels... but it snags the case halves along the way via the two center leaves. It's pretty delicate compared to the usual setup... which is most likely why the hinges are bent (center leaves) and the screws are pulled out of the wood, and will need repair before it will be sound enough to use again.

I'd expect these strange hinges to be a pretty strong identifier of the maker and period... but I'll be switched if I can find a single pic of another lap desk that uses them.

Nice! Does the swan have a maker's mark?

It think it had London marks and not sure about the maker, I’ll check them closer tomorrow.
One of them has marks i don’t recall seeing before it may have been the swan.

Edit: the feathers had the unknown mark that I now realize is also a Leonore Doskow mark. So the swan is also English.

This one shown by bascall on the SMP forum.

Yep. I'd have gone for that too.

Stuff from last week. The tray looks like it has copper coming though, but it also has an .800 hallmark clear as day (once you know where to look!), a sterling spoon souvenir of Yellowstone and a one-off resin Art Nouveau buckle. The latter was made for a theatrical production.

Found this beautiful box at an antique store yesterday. There are no markings but I just had to have it. I wish I knew the origin of it

Indonesia........I doubt antique.....I recognize the wood..

It was made in Jepara, North Java, Indonesia, ca 1910-1930.
On the lid are two wayang puppets, most likely representing Rama and Sinta (Sita) from the Hindu epic Ramayana. In between them a lotus flower, for spirituality and purity.
The wood is teakwood from East Java, the wood of choice in Java. It looks a bit darker on the outside, maybe stained to look like that.

I thought it would be newer than that....but maybe I've seen to much of that wood on more recent carvings....;)--:(:(:(:oops::oops::oops::oops:

Have you shown the mark somewhere? Those rusty spots could just be from being stored adjacent to something wet.
