Help to date, art, worth.

I am wondering if someone can help me to identify the date, art and any idea on its value of the following items.

- Four cheery/oak? wood cabinets, 1 table, set of 8 chairs.

 

once u know what they are , u can check eBay, and local sales to find a ballpark value in your area...

This set is European and circa 1920. Wood looks like beech, though in some places looks more like ash. If all pieces are a matched set, might all be ash. You mention 4 cabinets but I only see three. I would call the style secessionist but also exhibit arts and crafts influence. Value is highly dependent on where and how selling. I think you would be around $1200.00 at retail here in the US Midwest for the table chairs, and the 3 pieces I see. About half that at auction and more in a big city. who knows what this would be worth in Europe.

 

Hi, I attached the 4th cabinet (I missed this pics in the first post). The only information that I have on this furniture is that the last owners were from Holand and that they brought these items when they moved to Portugal (Algarve).

Also, I don't know if Portugal is a good place to sell it with higher or lower value than your reference. Maybe a auction should be a better choice.

my first thought was Northern Germany and apple or pear wood or what they called Weichholz (soft wood). but Holland could fit as well.
Jugendstil 1895 to 1914, but later production is possible after the Great War.
as an assembly I'd try to sell it to German or Dutch emigrants in Portugal or nearby parts of Spain.

 

You might need to find someone locally to help you with pricing. Any antique or consignment shops nearby? An auction is always an option but a crap shoot as far as getting good value.

 

the Algarve is normally the place where Northerners buy their small houses - the Portuguese Florida; so enough money around. but the big problem is the lockdown. most auction houses and specialized vendors for such stuff do only allow visits on appointment; the bidding for auctions is strictly online only.

 

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, I agree with you both that the best option is to to sell it to central Europe emigrants. I am going to try to find an antique shop near by to find out the local price for these items.

Veryvrad you evaluate all 4 cabinets plus table and chairs in approximately $1200, I was expecting a higher value but I am not an expert. Do you think that here or in an auction this value would be higher?
(Fid do you also have any recommendations for this?)

you don't have to take US prices to compare to Europe, that is completely useless. when you are looking for Germans or Dutch in Portugal then try to find out what it may cost in Germany or the Netherlands because that's the prices these people might remember.
I'd list or offer it as a dining room assembly.

That was for just the 3 cabinets and table/chairs. Would add another $300.00 or so for the last cabinet. It is the best of the bunch but see it has some damage so evaluated it a bit low.

Fid is right. You can not go by American prices. Your set is quite nice but out of favor here in the States right now. Hard to sell large sets of dining room furniture here at any price.

I am following your tips, and now I am waiting for an approximate evaluation with experts from an auction site working in Algarve.

Meanwhile I found some cabinets that seem quite similar with mine (Italian style art nouveau vanity cabinets). Is this a specific style?
These cabinet are made of cherry wood (The last owners referred this type of wood)

rather not. the Italian one is a typical lady's dressing table. yours is rather a sideboard for drinking glasses and to put the stuff onto that will be served - food, bottles, desserts etc.
