I can help with sizes on American watches. Lot 12 is a 6 size. It is a mid size halfway between the smallest ladies and a large man's 18 size. In a little while I will get my books out and give you a measurement on the movement size which will give you a close idea to over all size.

The case in lot 51 is a men's 18 size and will measure slightly over 2 inches across from side to side.

The case in lot 51 has damage that would require the work of a case repair expert and would be very pricey to make it ready for a watch. In the first picture look at the hinge tube on the right. It has been split out the length of the tube. There are very few people in the country qualified to do that work and it would be expensive.

Also the dents in the lid are in just about the worst possible place but with gold being so soft that might be fixed without to much trouble perhaps.

Thanks for the info.......mostly just looking, but if I saw a Gorgeous LITTLE something to DROOL over, I COULD be very tempted.....SO FAR I have NOT broken my GOLDEN RULE......except of course to buy a new car and that's out of the realm of antiques!!!!

There are a lot of serious watch people who drool over that very auction! I haven't bought anything from them but I know of many watch enthusiast groups where they bid heavily there.

On lot 101 the prettiest case is gold filled(possibly both, I didn't look to close) and is brassing heavily meaning the gold layer is very thin or gone in the heavy wear areas. These are men's sizes and the Railroad watch enthusiast will drive this auction high for the movements with no regard for the cases.

In lot 101 this will statement "s#11033544, only 800 HC mvts made, this from the first run of 19J mvts." makes the movement somewhat rare although to the average person who just wants a nice version of that movement is not worth what it will sell for. One can have the very same movement a few years later at a more affordable price.

This is saying that in the first run of this movement only 800 were made in a hunter case configuration. There were many more runs of this same movement and many, many more hunter configured movements exactly the same.

In regards to lot 51 I have an uncased 6 size movement and it measures just a bit over an inch and quarter. A gold case is always thin and would likely bring that somewhere in the slightly under an inch and a half size frame from side to side IMHO. My husband is the watch person but I am often the buyer and I know a lot of what to look for when considering a watch and am always glad to offer my perspective!

My husband did get the literal Rolex in an old tin of junk one time. A lovely watch from the 40's. We mostly concentrate on early American key wind pocket watches but if I do see your dream Rolex I will give you a shout for sure!!!

I think you are more of a "Pro" and I'm looking at....at least the little decorative ladies ones.....as more of a jewelry item.....so you can quickly get in over MY head, but I DO appreciate that YOU appreciate what you are looking at!!!!! If that makes any sense!!!!
