Dietz Vesta Lantern marked New York Central on the top (sorry I forgot to take a pic of that). Wondering what the marking on the glass means. Is the term etched glass, or? It reads "BR & PRy". The only thing I can find that's close is possibly "Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburg Railway"......is that it?
    Also, I found this page

    http://nycshs.blogspot.com/2008/05/nyc-railroad-history.html

with NYC Railroad history that states there were several leased lines, and it gives some examples, but I could not find these initials in those examples. Thanks for your time:)
(There is a "B" in front there, it's just hard to see in pics, and sorry about the dust, I have not cleaned it yet.)

Yep, seconded. Classic shortline designation. Pieces from of those are worth more than the big roads. You did well finding this; I wouldn't be surprised if that glass is worth more than the rest of the lantern.

I can't tell from here, but that's my best guess. Paint might flake or chip off but etching is forever. Run a fingernail over it; you should be able to tell.

Ok thanks, duh me! I didn't even think to run a nail over it to check! Yes, I can feel that it's etched. For some reason my brain was thinking it was a type of frosting/frosted glass.
    Thanks again:)

I agree, the globe is worth more by itself.

    Hi all
Just found this site today & realized been sittin here reading >5 hrs already .

Anyhoo .... I collect copper cookware & last year bought A GIGANTIC Rubbermaid storage tub loaded w/various copper & some brass pieces. OLD stuff. My reward was two Joseph Heinrichs sterling lined chafing dishes! I personally have no use for the 15 other items in the bin: several Turkish or Middle Eastern copper pitchers, ewers, a reticulated brass desk lamp, can't remember everything actually, lol. EXCEPT that there are three of these Dietz Vesta vessels in there? I had no idea what kind of lantern they were, bad to lookup. My point? All three have the glass globeso intact? There are a couple nautical lamps as well in there. I'm not much of a seller, more a buyer. And, NOT a huge fan of Ebay lately. Where would best place to sell these be?
And a fair to decent price to ask? I've really NO use at all fornthem, don't want to keep them around in garage long either? Suggestions? Thanks nine advance to anybody w/ideas?

The etching could have been put on the globe a few years ago and not original, but fake. If the lettering were part of the mold, it would be good.
