    dear all

i assume this is a powder pot, though it looks rather large volume-wise with a relatively small puff thingy. 3 3/4" tall 3 1/4" diameter. the interior glass chamber is 2" deep with a 2" diameter. there is no mark anywhere. it is not lightweight and the black patches around is mostly dirt that can be gently scratched off.

    regards

Not junk, but not silver either.
    Trinket box? Vanity box?
I believe the style is called Dutch, but made in the US. Being Dutch I don't know a thing about this particular style, but it fascinates me.:wideyed::confused::)

The glass liner is more than an inch smaller in diameter? Doesn't look like that in the picture, but if so would indicate it's not original. What is the orange piece that's inside? With the mirror in the lid (the flange to hold it in can be reattached), it probably was intended as a powder box.

These 'Dutch Reproduction' pieces usually date to right around the 1920s, give or take a few years earlier or later. If the down puff is in good condition, has value in its own right...

The men on the powder pot wear Zeeland hats for Protestants:

Zeeland is in the southwest of The Netherlands. Those hats were also worn by Jews btw, they usually followed Protestant regional styles.

definitely not silver but it is non-magnetic. i am thinking may be pot metal but pot metals tend to be dull and greyish, so silver plated?? no EPNS or EP anywhere :(

i personally have no idea when it was made. if they belonged to my grandmother, i would say early to mid 20th

EPNS is electro-plated nickel silver, EP is electro-plated. It can still be plated, just with a different technique, or not marked as such.

my apologies. measurement of lid diameter is 3 1/4" and the metal pot diameter is 3". the inner diameter of the inner glass pot is just under 2 3/4" (not 2")
the orange piece is the back of the mirror. i thought it unusual for a mirror to have such a bright orange backing. i have been trying to figure out what it may be and i think it may be some kind of protective silica layer ... but no luck with finding anything similar for dates and maker :(

thinking plating because the cover is silvery on the outside but yellowy on the inside. doesn't seem to show any rusting or greening or .... i have been reading :D;)

I think the puff is added. That looks like an early 1900s puff, with either ivory or celluloid.

The pot metal jar looks like the things Japan was putting out in the 1950s-60s copies of the Dutch silver.

Can we see a picture of the base of the jar?
Does it have texture or is it smooth?

The orange piece I was asking about is inside the frame in two of your pictures. Is it something you put in, or was it already there? It looks odd, is it some kind of plastic?

The orange on the back of the mirror is just a coating, like paint, used to protect the silvering...

yep orange/pink thing inside is some kind of plastic sheet. does that narrow it down to 1950s-60s?
