It is, and it is stunning.
Officially you'd have to know the provenance of the stone to be able to say it is Tianhuang for sure, it has to be found in specific ricefields and at a specific elevation and site along the Shoushan River. But this is what is generally known as Shoushan Tianhuang, and I would be very happy to own something as beautiful as this.

No, too fussy. Scholar stones, and scholar's art in general, are sedate, so the scholar can achieve brilliance in tranquil and inspiring surroundings.:pompous:

Please include dimensions in posts with photos. This object appears to be about 7” tall but there’s no way to tell for sure.

Is the carved portion coated with something to make it match the reflectivity of the virgin surface? I ask because carved stone is normally dull or matte finish unless polished, and obviously the detail of one like that pictured would prevent polishing.

    It's about 9 or 10 inches tall.

Not coated with anything. I have a few jade pieces that are polished on the carved surface

Because of the very high density, jade can be polished to shine like a mirror.

actually, it is a little oily feeling. the other huangcha sculpture I got also has an oily feel to it. the whole thing does, the carved and virgin surface.

Sometimes I see shoushan stones that are orange, but they are so cheap.

This looks natural (not dyed or molded powder mixed with epoxy), but is it tianhuang?
