    Hi everyone,
Brand new to this forum....ive come across this decanter at my grandmother's house. I picked it to keep because I liked the color, but it was recently suggested to me that it could be depression glass. Any info on the pattern, value etc would be appreciated. Im interested in its history...Thanks so much!!

Glad you got this in the place where the Glassies live, Lee!

I'm sure they will want more pictures, but I'll leave that choice to them. I, on the other hand, am interested to know whether you have looked over the silver (?) collar for any marks. They can be very tiny and are often placed near the edge.

I was actually just trying to take a picture of that....it has two tiny depressions in it, one right next to the other, and the right one has a star in it. It w ont let me upload, says the file size is too big. Go figure lol but I'll keep trying

Ah. That's not my forte. Can you email them to your computer (or don't you have one?)

Aha!! The star (a pentagram) is a Spanish indicator of silver fineness! The other mark would be the maker's mark, although I do not have a source for them (and can't really see what it is anyway.)

See the Spain section on the page in this link. It will give you earliest year of use and minimum silver fineness.

So your decanter is most likely European.

How interesting! I'm going to have to see if I can figure out how to see the makers mark a little more clearly. Thank you!

Certainly not Depression Glass. It's called Emerald Cut to clear cut glass.
