Hi Chris, I have found this file on this website. http://www.antiquearmor.com/274flask.html
Now unless this is the same one, finding an identical early flask makes me feel a little suspicious of its authenticity.

Annpan, I agree. I think this is a 19th century piece.
The crowned rose mark is Dutch, for tin/pewter. England also had a crowned rose mark for pewter, but with the characteristic British crown. Dutch tin has a higher tin content than English pewter.
In the 19th century the Dutch made many 'historic' objects, either copies, fakes, or fantasy. The fakes had older marks, like the crowned rose mark. The other marks are fake maker's and guild marks. The fakes are collectible, but not worth as much as a truly 17th century piece.
So I think this is an antique, but 19th century.
The determined looking gentleman on horseback could be Hollands 'Stadhouder' William III, known in Britain as king William of Orange, during the Franco-Dutch war, 1672-1678.

Interesting, the seller lists it as dating from the 1980s.
The marks are not French, since it has a Dutch rose mark. I don't know of fake Dutch tin made in the 1980s, it wouldn't have been worthwhile anyway, since the Dutch antique tin market had hit a low around that time.

all this is very interesting and i love all the info its awesome
so in the end possibly a 19th century piece but one that multiple copies were made based on an earlier piece.
there was only 3 online the 795 dollars the antiquer wants correct me if I'm wrong if it was from 1677 wouldn't it be worth a lot more than that.
a couple on etsy but maybe misinformed that's why they sold and aren't available anymore.

It's still decorative and if you like it then fine but if it's for re-sale then you might struggle a bit.

Chris, are those Aussie dollars? If so, it could be just about right.
Best to check the prices of similar tin/pewter items in your area.

We have a large statue of King Billy in the old town area.
Legend has it when the bells of the nearby clock struck midnight he got off his horse and went into the nearby pub (called The King William) and helped himself to a beer.

Thank goodness I have some(?) self-restraint or I would have responded to Any Jewelry's post (#19) directly above.

Uh-oh, my "self-restraint" seems to be lacking this a.m.

With an up-front apology to Any Jewelry, I thought Any Jewelry was going to say "He probably helped himself to a wee as well." :shame: x 10
