That's the BEST! No remains of polish in the recessed parts, highlight the details in decor leaving only patina! Plain smooth silver can be polished with silver polish to shine beautifully, no tooth paste or harsh chemical or dreadful recipe with salt and tinfoil in boiling water!:nailbiting:

Sunshine Cloths are brilliant. Way better than liquid for intricate pieces. I use Goddards on plain pieces and ocasionally resort to Duraglit or even Maas for something that is really bad. With extreme care.

Tarnex is the work of the devil. And don't get me started on that electrolysis nonsense.

Solid silver, .800 fineness. Most likely made in Germany. In spite of the subject, not made in the Netherlands.

    I am another Sunshine girl.:D

Thanks, Kyra, a cloth is the MOST polishing I ever want to do! ;)
I like that there would be no residue left afterwards. I never seem to be able to quite finish one task, so there would always be ugly polish left in my silver cracks with any paste! ;)

Good to know. I recently bought some "Wright's" (?) silver polish that I've never opened. I realized I would rather try a cloth. Now to find/buy a cloth! ;)

Laura, what is the small silver piece in the center of your photo that looks like a bar of soap?

You can imbibe with silver polish a part of a dedicated rag, let it dry and use it as a sunshine cloth. I have several from felt to micro fiber and suede, all blackened from years of use and working perfect on slightly tarnished pieces.
For jewellery difficult to reach parts, I use ribbon or thick thread held straight between my teeth and move the piece to shine back and forth:D;):p

This big 25cm diameter bowl has only be shined once with polish when I bought it all black 25 years ago... From then it is only rag rubbed few times a year while watching TV:joyful:

I can find all kinds of silver polish at my local hardware store, no need to mail order. I like Wright's for most things because it goes on with a damp sponge and washes away, no nasty crust left in the crevices. Polishing cloths are great for jewelry :)

I have no idea!! I will take a better picture of it tomorrow. It actually seems more like brass but I'm not entirely sure. I'm just now seeing these posts. I have been checking the alerts but is there another way to see when I get postings??

EXCELLENT SUGGESTIONS! Kyra, could you please recommend a brand of polish that could stick in a rag and not drag out over the piece like white toothpaste looks when it drys? Would the Wright's work like this after it's dried onto a rag? Perhaps I would actually OPEN THE JAR! ;)

Exactly the thing I want to do IF I must ever polish silver. (Actually that time is coming soon!)

Thank you, Marie! :singing: It would be so easy for me to just use what I have already!

The "alerts" are not a perfect science here. When I am curious about responses, I must return to the thread itself, I find new posts nearly every time. I've had to make notes on what to return to, as I haven't posted much of my own stuff. Yet. :p:D
