I agree with everything already said about Bakersgma and I will also say thank you. :)

My neighbor cleans out homes for a living. I'm always amazed at what people throw away. He will always make sure that they meant to throw items away that seem to have significant or sentimental value and they just don't care.

Goofy stuff ends up in rummage sales too. I have a love token ID bracelet sitting here with a woman's name on it. I haven't been able to bear to melt it, but the original owner died and the family dumped it. Maybe it was from an old boyfriend? I've found family photos and the like in estate sales too. No one in the family wanted to keep them. Wedding cake toppers, more than once, from the 20s and 30s. The one that took the cake, ahem, is a platinum and diamond 1920s engagement ring. That piece is safely hoarded in my stash and won't be sold until I'm spare parts too.

    Hi,
In old neighborhood an old man died and the family sold just about everything. They left an old trunk filled to the brim with all of his military records including 30 boxes of photographs from his 2 years in WWll. The stuff included medals, ribbons
letters from his commanding officers etc. I tried to donate it to the VFW, they wanted no part of it. The family did not want it. I still have it in the trunk in one of my closets. I have tried several times to donate the stuff, no one wants it. The medals are the usual, nothing outstanding. I forget about the trunk once in a while.
My family will probably say "The old geeyser had someones elses records, How weird" and dump them in the dumpster. It is so sad.

That's a crying shame. Somebody somewhere ought to want that. Sometimes base libraries collect papers from their "alumni". There may also be a unit historian somewhere up the food chain. I sent a 1919 Yale Law degree back to their rare book section a long time ago. The guy had died with no descendants and the family was tossing it. Yale cheerfully took it and set about restoring it.

    Hi Pat,
I called them after the VFW turned me down. The AL did not want it either. Even the historical society said no. I wonder if I asked for some money for it they might have been more receptive?
