It is small and has a handle and cutouts on the side. It has a little chamber on top to fill that gets heated by the flame. Copper and brass.. what is this?? I'm stumped. Has a French mark "Depose" and a signature but I can't read it.

    Welcome! :)
Find it odd with two handles then that ring, no clue what that is for.
My first thought is it's the next step up from a carried candlestick.
Though I wonder if it's for warming up reciprocating and rotating things, maybe locomotive/train parts?

If I'm not mistaken Depose is the french word for "registered" as in trademarked. I don't think it refers to a particular maker. This is a fascinating piece though.

Underneath the Depose (french for "registered") I see three stars, then the letters underneath look like "G. M."

Played around a bit with the mark - not a huge improvement but here's what I came up with:

Yeah I think the metal has some dings in it that make it hard to distinguish where the letters end and the dings start. Could be Q.O. - B.O. - Q.M. - B.M. ... maybe even the first letter could be an A?

Can you see that area from the inside?

Oh you guys are awesome! I will look inside with a flashlight when I get home. The Copper Chamber up-top unscrews so you can fill with something liquid? then that spout that comes down over the flame from it?? so strange. Ill take more pics after work. Thanks everyone.

Spout looks like maybe a drip valve. Maybe meant for solid fat fuel (lard?) to go into the container on top...once ignited the flame /heat liquifies the fuel in the tank...and it drips down onto the burner as it goes? I know there are/were lard burning lamps but I haven't seen one like this. Just a guess.

I'd guess that the reason for the dual handles was so they could fold against the item when not in use, but be fairly steady when unfolded; as opposed to a single folding handle which would be wobbly once unfolded.
