I have a paperweight that looks a lot like an Eicholt but it is unsigned. Looked on 'bay and found just one unsigned and the person said she bought it unsigned directly from the artist. What do you think? Even if it was made by Eickholt, do you think anyone would believe me? Does it have any value? It measures 5 1/2" high and 4" across. TIA!

If it isnt by him I believe someone would still want it. It has a nice look.

Looking at yours it has a lot of similarities of his work but not sure if he signed all of his stuff.

Pam, I believe this is an Eicholt paperweight, as do you, no reason not to state that you believe it to be an Eicholt. It's very attractive.

Agree it is attractive & desirable but think not Eickholt. (Hate saying what I think something is not when I can't say what it is.) To say 'Every Eickholt piece I have seen has been signed' is rather idiotic & circular, but I used to buy directly from him at crafts shows & never examined a piece that was not signed. Think he was pretty conscious about branding. We showed some pieces & signatures in this thread:

I tend to agree with Browen...Eickholt pieces (at least everyone I have seen were signed.) This style was not unique to him so could be any studio piece. It is nice !

Did Eickholt ever sell unsigned seconds?

Reasonable question I cannot answer. Is there any reason to think OP is a second? A cobalt controlled bubble vase I have was the only one like it in his display & he said he wasn't making it anymore. I said, So this is the last one made? Answer, No, probably one of the first, kept as sample. It is signed & dated even though held back from sale.

Exactly. Techniques employed were commonly in use by many glass artists. This vaguely heart shape holding a bubble just does not jibe with what I know/remember of his work.

Thanks for all your comments. I think I will just place it in my space at the antique mall and cross my fingers. This PW is really heavy and people can sometimes get taken off guard when they go to pick up heavy items. And drop them . . . Hope not.

This info was originally posted a year ago. So here's "the rest of the story".

Since it wasn't signed, I put it in my space at the antique mall and it was very promptly stolen. I pulled out of that mall last July due to Covid and the ongoing theft problem.

Thanks, Norma! You have a lovely 'weight.

I'm sorry, ola402. I only put my items in locked cases now.
