WOOT! Score! I went to the Ill Will today and walked out with ...nothing. I'll take a junk jar like that any day, all day.

Should I buy those jars having little knowledge of such items?

I never buy them unless, like today, the regular jewelry pricing woman is on vacation, she never puts anything worthwhile in them. I do buy stuff she has priced from the showcase but not the jars. This jar was obvious as a good one, I know some pickers that buy lots of them and barely break even on them.
I bought a second jar today that had a 1970's Omega megaquartz watch in it (without a band), nothing else worth anything.

Junk jars can be lucrative, but I try to restrain myself from buying them unless I can see my money back before opening the jar. Most aren't worth the price tag unless you're stocking a child's dress-up box.

    lloyd249 it's not hoarding if it's valuable

i will buy ,if i can see any value/reuse in just one thing , and if i don't , then later i think about it and wonder hmm should i have looked deeper , or just bought it, bring it home, and searched it better . i have found some really cool stuff that i didn't see from the outside, or at first glance .

And then I get it home and find the thing I bought it for in the first place is either broken or is only one of a pair. I just picked one up that looked like a really nice piece of sterling with a push-in clasp and foldover safeties. The fold-overs are fine, but the part that pushes is only half there.

Recent (since Sunday) finds. All pieces, except the signed Zuni bolo, were under $3.50ea.! :D There are two additional Steuben wines, but we used them for dinner tonight and they are still drying. A couple of tiny Herend pieces ... always nice to pick up for a couple of bucks.

The earrings (hanging on one of the glasses) are vintage, made by Kroma ... one of the first companies to make jewelry using dichroic glass back in the 80's and 90's and recently started selling some of their most popular styles again ... they are keepers ($1) and will join the other Kroma earrings I already have!

The little porcelain box was taped shut too securely to easily peel apart at the thrift ... was unmarked, but so cute that I wouldn't mind if I ended up having to keep it for myself.

But look what I found inside the lid ... a striking surface ... it's for holding matches! People collect these things, right?? ... I may not have to keep it after all. And, at first I didn't realize that those things impressed on the lid were match sticks ... but they make sense now. :)

Bought by Paul Laidlaw (Antiques Road trip) for £60. Sold by Lacy Scott & Knight in May, show airing in UK this Friday.

    One to watch!

Definitely! If only I could watch from here, but Mother Beeb won't let folks outside the UK stream the episodes.

I wonder how the seller is feeling after that result!!

Laidlaw was gobsmacked but, to be fair, he knew he had a winner when he bought it, all that surprised him was how much of a winner!

From the same place as my last finds post. The tray (Hamilton for Macy's) is 13-3/4" diameter and the bowl (Shreve Crump & Low, Irish Reproduction) is 10" x 7-1/2" x 1-3/4". My scale isn't working but both are really heavy.
