    Hi everyone!

I posted on the silver board about a house call I did last month because I needed help with a silver bowl I got there. I also got a lot of jewelry and was encouraged to show some of it. So, if you read the post on the silver board you can skip the following long story and go right to the photos :)

I went to a house call last month. Typical call - I thought - I get the all the time. "I have tons of my mother's and grandmother's jewelry." I get there and everything was bought in Chico's :inpain:

Well, this time they had their mother's, grandmother's, great grandmother's and great great grandmothers! I was in heaven.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

The man who called me said his sister passed away intestate and his siblings voted him executor of the estate. No one in the family wanted any of it except two or three pieces. If it were me and my family's jewelry, I would have kept all the gold and silver and a lot of the costume, but that's just me.

I spent 3 days sorting through and testing the jewelry, picking what I wanted and helping them decide what to throw away, give away and what to send to auction.

I got a couple of other dealers involved, one who sells vintage and antique clothing, accessories and textiles. One who sells Wedgwood. A third who sells ink wells and misc. antiques. They were all very, very happy!

The following photos are some of the pieces I got. Some has already been sold, a few I still have to photograph and some were damaged pieces that will go into a harvest lot so not worth posting.

Sorry to go on so long, but I thought you might find the story interesting :)

I have to ask, were these people so wealthy they didnt care about gold jewelry ? Not to mention pieces like the mourning jewelry, did not one person care about family history ? That being said, gorgeous stuff!

Holy crow. If you paid about 4 cents on the dollar for all of it, I don't want to know. I just don't want to know. What a haul!

No, the vibe I got was it was "old junk no one wanted" and they thought was ugly. The jewelry was just a drop in the bucket. I know they had over 300 EAPG goblets that they had to deal with early on before they called me. Luckily they found the right people to help them with the EAPG.

I met them at an antique show in September of 2016, they finally called me about the jewelry in August of 2017. They were overwhelmed with everything that had been passed down through the family over more than 100 years, no one taking anything and never selling any of it.

While I was there they asked for help on silver. They took me into another room that was packed with pieces they couldn't even begin to sort. I helped them separate the silver plate from the sterling. Meanwhile there were glass pieces, porcelain and pottery. It was an antique dealer's dream!!!

I have been selling on eBay for years. About 8 years ago I wanted to make my photos distinctive so I tried lots of backgrounds and came up with backgrounds that made the pieces look good and didn't compete with the items.

Then I worked with my camera and a light tent to make sure the color was good. I do make adjustments to the images, but I usually just have to brighten them. I have it down pat now :)

No, I paid reasonable prices for the pieces. I knew I had found a great source and wanted to be fair. I think we were both very happy.

When I was done with everything they took me into the silver room and told me to pick out whatever I wanted as a thank you, they were so grateful for the help I gave them. I am a firm believer in "what goes around, comes around" :)
