What is this 3" hat pin like item?

This piece was in a bag of jewelry I purchased. In the same bag was the velvet box. NO idea if they go together, but first photograph shows both.

The stone in this looks new-ish, and not that exciting. Not like an nicer old sparkly rhinestone even. Kind of like a crudely done inexpensive rhinestone. I would have thought the entire thing was some kind of newer item, but the rest of it looks like it might be older. Also there is a tiny deliberate hole for something, half way down.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

I`m thinking it is a Hat Pin.
The hole is maybe for a small bar to stop it slipping out.

    Thanks Davey, and Eve.

Definitely hat-pin like, but yes, its about the size of a golf marker.

Does the stone look like it is glued in? A top view photo without a lot of reflection would help.

It's for poking the a** of the golf competition when ready to swing.

    Hi,
Looks like a Bobbypin went in there to hold the hat pin in place.

That would work, maybe the kinked ones too. :)

Hard to see from just a photo, but the hole is too small for a bobby pin. Just tried a stick pin from my cork board --even that was too thick.

Even those old black bobby pins would be too thick I'm thinking. A small sized needle goes through, but only just.

Not thinking that this has a huge value, just a bit perplexed. Kind of an older looking base with an inexpensive looking stone. It is also tapered, but maybe some hat pins are.

I think this may be just a piece of something else. Just don't ask me a piece of what.
