Without seeing interior of chest, kinda hard to date it, matter of fact, impossible. Still, i don't think age of chest is all that important market wise, $75-$150 sounds about right to me.

But they are large and imposing security guards!
There were 5 or 6 of them at the Honolulu zoo that would waddle abreast and run you out at closing time!
    They were HUGE!
What? Oh yes.....see you later! ;)

I forgot to finish this thought by adding that , on the other hand DUCKS do a 2 purposes in addition to orange sauce............They make a trip to the Peabody very amusing, AND they make an internet friend of mine very happy! So, I'm glad we still have ducks........just not on every d@mned piece of ceramic or re-worked old wood, or grapevine wreath {shudder} in the house.................

It took me a while, and I had a nap :meh: but I did the best I could to take pics of the actual label & hardware. Conflicted about the paint.

Looks like someone tried very hard to get rid of that label. ;)

They might have even tried to burn it off.

Still, i am sticking to my $75-$150 dealio, i don't think it matters much the date of chest or maker.

It looks melted. Or like there was a top coat brushed onto it that disintegrated it.

Or maybe applied something to get it to come off. Note the deep red color around it - including a "drip."

    "melted" is the perfect descriptor.

Out of curiosity, does it smell like cedar inside?

    I was just thinking that.
It was stuffed with incredible clothes, linens, scarves, hankerchiefs and some other things.

Cedar can be woken up. I forget how.
Wipe with a barely damp rag was it?

King, I was always told to sand the surface lightly. That's what my Mom used to do with our cedar closets.

I can see that. That should take off any residues and raise the grain.
