    Hi,
NEVER read a book on a machine, never hope to. I like settling down in a comfy chair with a REAL book. Hell my cell phone just rings and I just call a number. I can not text or check things or whatever you people do in this day and age. The phone is for MY convenience, I do not have to keep it in my grasp and constantly looking at it. It is a machine NOT part of my hand or ear. It costs me NOTHING per month since I get 300 free minutes each month. I think the most I ever used it was 35 minutes one month. When my 14 year old nephew was bitching because his phone bill was 89 dollars one week.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I use some of those other 'machines', NOT to read, and only need an eye pad if I hurt an eye.

    Hi,
It is not new enough to be a flip phone. It is 4" long and 2" wide. Slides into my shirt pocket when I have to take it somewhere.

They're actually "Calrad Volumetric" - little Japanese speakers - best sounding Japanese speakers I've ever had actually. They're perfect for my desk. If you run across a pair I highly recommend them. Same ones as seen here:

I had one like that! A "corporate phone" issued to everyone involved in the management of our Y2K preparedness group. That will tell you how old it was.

This is an engraving/etching by Anthony Walker (1726-1765) after a miniature painting by Isaac Oliver (1560-1617)

It shows Edward Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Cherbury (Chirbury) (1583-1648)

The painting dates c1613-14. This print is from 1764 when it was used as the frontpiece to Lord Herbert's autobiography, published by Horace Walpole.

It's a strange image, and the painting was done at a time when every little detail would have been symbolic.

The image size is about 18.3cm x 22.3cm (7 3/16” x 8 13/16”), which is essentially the size of the original painting.
Print Engraving Lord Herbert of Chirbury by Anthony Walker after Isaac Oliver 1764 -a.jpg

To me, it's a wonderful exercise in technique. Walker had an incredibly light touch and remarkable control. There's a lot that can't be appreciated without a magnifying glass.

There's a large image of another example here from England's National Portrait Gallery
    http://www.npg.org.uk/collections/s...ert-of-Cherbury?LinkID=mp02151&role=sit&rNo=8

And here's the original painting from the National Trust

Walker engraved another print I have:
    Edward Bright: the Fat Man of Maldon (1751 - image size 6 5/16" x 3 13/16")

Went to one estate sale, after waking up way too early, only to find not much. Two dry well tag sales later, I found an unadvertised sale someone else had mentioned and ...score. The doll is marked Germany and nothing else. DSCF6419.JPG DSCF6411.JPG The larger dolly is a Ruth Gibbs, a late 40s copy of much earlier dolls. She even came with her original tags and the pattern sold to make her clothes to match 1860s Godey's Ladies Book designs. Also found, some scrap sterling, quilting bits, and this print. I started a thread on it elsewhere; I started singing and old German field work song the second I saw it, and if they literally make you sing they probably need to follow you home. Total outlay at that sale, $20.
