At first, I thought it was Mercury, what I thought was a wing maybe just a feather. the lady beast, well maybe no beast, but somehow she lost her face.
    I would appreciate your opinion.

    7 1/2" tall

Does anyone recognize the Artist and, is the definition Polychrome correct for this sculpture?

Doyou think that she originally had a face?

Romeo's face looks like a separate piece, painted, or perhaps a different material. Hers was probably similar.

Since you asked, I wouldn't call this "polychrome." In my experience that term is most frequently used for multi-colored (more than 2 colors) ceramics. I've never since it used for metal items on which there has been intentional or unintentional wear at the high spots.

No, that isn't an example of polychrome. The definition is in the name. The Greek prefix poly = many. The Greek root word chrome = color.

This is an example of polychrome. The classical statue we admire in a museum and the way it would have looked originally.

I read somewhere that one of the key ingredients of polychrome is the marble. This marble base is probably not the original base on the informational images above.

    Thanks, Everyone

The lack of multiple colors rules out polychrome.

    Thanks
