We’ve done ornithology and now Botany!
Apologies for flooding the board with pieces today- car is in hospital racking up the bills so I’m listing some jewellery to sell or finding out what can go and what to hoard :troll:.
This brooch looks quite old to me. It’s stamped U&B. The only U&B I can find is Udall and Ballou from the 30’s but they look high end stuff and this is brass and white metal. Any idea what the seed pods are? Not quite right for conkers. Fairly sure they are organic. I think it’s missing another leaf but it’s still quite balanced.
    Thanks for looking :)

Edit- Daughter has just told me they are meant to be cherries which I can see now :pompous::banghead: but I’m not sure what they are actually made of!

Think they might be some sort of bean. Maybe this Hawaiian Kukui nut.
I had something similar with real acorns which I gave to a friend for her birthday.

They do look like those kukui nuts. This brooch looks quite old to me- would Kukui nuts have been available then? Trouble is I don’t know when ‘then’ was!

Likely to have been around for millennia like most species of nuts.
    Here’s some older nut jewellery.

Those are gorgeous and I think the same type of nut. Are those Victorian?

I think two of them are. One was described as trench art but I don’t know which one.
I remember going into a charity shop and picking up a rather nice spotty bean necklace, I didn’t buy it as they removed it from sale when I told them they were seeds from the castor oil plant and you could make the poisonous ricin from them!

Wasn’t there a scare a few years ago that all the kids were wearing these seed necklaces that were found to be highly toxic?
I’m not a fan of seed pod jewellery but your examples could change my mind.
