@quirkygirl - Your dishes are wonderful!! You will have to keep us posted as to how well they do when you sell them.:happy:

So what did you find when you dumped out the jars? Did your lucky streak continue?:happy:

I can't see that anyone else has aswered so I will help. It's pronounced "Nantgower"(simplistically)

    Awesome score, Quirky!! :singing:

With the openings for spoons or ladles in the lids of the "soupa sugar bowls" :hilarious: it seems to me that it would be useful to know dimensions for those. Sugar bowls don't usually have their spoons in the sugar all the time so there's no need for an indent in the lid.

Sauce bowls. When these were made, sugar was lumps from a loaf.

    I'm dead jealous.

Very close, but as I'm originally from a town very close to Nantgarw, the correct pronunciation is Nant-ga-roo, "w" being the "oo" vowel in Welsh.

Ah, indeed. My phonetic representation was a bit off. ;)

    Thank you, Owned .

They have a facebook page, too ... I may try there, but since I already belong to (lurk at), the British Porcelain and Pottery group on FB, I'll probably ask there first.

Took three days ... (and plenty of prodding from the wonderful board members here), but I finally got all that they had out for sale. :)

Wonder why I can't find any examples without the floral center design?[/QUOTE]
......Having already been lucratively engaged to supply undecorated pieces for subsequent decoration and re-sale by several of the foremost London-based producers, Billingsley and Walker were then approached by John Rose of the Coalport works – who proposed a more complete and effective solution to what he perceived as the threat from an upstart competitor by offering a sufficiently attractive package to secure the exclusive services of the sought-after craftsmen..... source:

    Interesting read. Thank you :)
Are you thinking that these were unfinished? Isn't the gold trim the last thing that gets applied?

Interesting that Coalport was mentioned. I found a piece by Coalport which has the same shape as the what-I-originally-thought-were-sugar-bowls.

IF ... IF I sell them. They and I might be starting to form a bond. ;)

Jars = lots of new costume with some scrap gold and silver and some wearable (or sellable) gold and silver. Found some interesting pieces ... one is lying here next to me as I can't even figure out what it is. I'll show it once I take pics.

    Aha! You rock! Thanks! :)
That explains the stain on the inside of one of them (in such a rush, I didn't bother to re-size and post the photo of said stain) and the oval shaped under-plate, which reminded me of the type that is paired with a gravy boat.

After looking at many examples of Nantgarw online I'm just not convinced that my pieces could have come from the same factory that created the thin, refined, beautifully decorated porcelain they seem to be known for.

While searching through the facebook group for British Pottery and Porcelain, I saw where they mentioned that this dot pattern was used by other potteries as well, and may have been after a pattern used earlier by Sevres called "pois vert".

Contrary to my recently shown pieces, I'm not a pottery collector and am in way over my head trying to figure this out.:)
