Were you just talking about this a few weeks ago?
If not, someone else here was and will probably see your post.
Since most of them were surely made in Edison and West Orange NJ you might contact the Edison museums in NJ and the one in Texas for ideas.

I sometimes see them at auctions in the midwest. They're always inexpensive.

Auctions and Antique consignment shops is where I find mine. They are usually about $2 each. You could also check your local library (sometimes they have sales to get rid of inventory). Now I just need to convince the wife I need a gramophone ...:shifty:

damn that's so expensive. whats so special with these records. Mill Cove i just check your ebay link. yes thats true. so expensive. Hey in Sri Lanka these are pretty cheap. These are long play records right. I mean LP. by the way does LP records has 78rpm or is it different. Guys in Sri Lanka it's just $20 doller per record. Even at that price he is finding it really difficult to sell. Specially he got some German ones He even asked me whether i could help.

Mmm, those are in mint condition and rare. Most of them are not that expensive. Just like anything else - supply and demand. I have quite a few and have paid anywhere from $1 to $5 per record or $10 for an album of them.

Around here I've seen batches of 10 go for $1.00. Of course it's a grab-bag, but if you're not too particular.....

    I thought LP was 33 1/3 not 78.

Back in my childhood, record players had 3 speed choices - 33 1/3, 45 and 78. Not so any more.

45 and 33-1/3 are being produced again and have been for a little while now.
And I just heard more 33's are being cut. Special ones have been for awhile.
I know that some bands have bought their own, used, 45 & 33 production equipment when it was very cheap.

I have also heard about the resurgence of vinyl, which sounds like a good thing.

My turntable (late 80's/early 90's manufacture) only has speed choices for 45 and 33, no 78 choice. So I couldn't play those even if I wanted to.

Yes - LP - Long-Playing - was at one time a new invention; prior to that, records were most commonly 78 rpm, but many were in 10" or 12" sizes that we now would associate with the 33 1/3 rpm LPs.
those were pretty limited in playing time; hence the term "record album" which originally referred to something similar to a photo album, which would hold the dozen or so 78s necessary to record a symphony.

There were some "78 LP" intermediate steps that tried to get slightly longer playing times by compressing the grooves, but these were not very successful.
    As I recall....
(My Mom saved and passed on to me a record player with a 78 setting, made in the 80s, with the note that "this will be rare and valuable someday because nobody will be making 78 record players anymore." She was right, except I'm not sure it is valuable. But at least I can play 78s.)

Some 78's are fully blank on the other side.
Some have very beautiful castings in them of landscapes and things.
    I watch for these. :)
